Melanie Milletics is an Internet Entrepreneur

In the process of setting my goals for 2011, I sat down to write down all of the “WINS” of 2010 as well as those negative experiences that I chose to learn from.  How convenient for a woman who likes to write- as it serves perfectly as the outline for my 2010 year in review post here… ‘cept you aren’t going to see any of my dirty laundry here folks. I’ve already forgiven myself for those mistakes and learned from them. What you will get is a CELEBRATION of the highlights of 2010… a year that was about stepping way out of my internet marketing comfort zone – and growing in ways that are preparing me for the incredible things to come in 2011.

I do think a bit of history would put this story into perspective…
If you are just meeting me for the very first time – this is how I described myself at the beginning of last year :

First, a brief explanation of who I am, what I do, and how all the pieces of this 2009 story fit together. I’m a wife, mother, and primary bread winner in the household. Mom’s little home based business became awfully profitable after she learned a the power of List Building. I’m a Network Marketer who generates her own leads online through what people now call Web 2.0, and more recently ‘attraction marketing‘. In plain speak, I have a large subscriber base that is primarily made up of people who are either home business buyers, seekers, or simply curious. I work to entertain said subscribers by posting informative lessons on this here blog… and a good number of those people decide they like me enough to work with me in my Network Marketing company. Those that don’t may decide to buy one of the information products or services I review for them. I’m extremely careful about what I recommend to my subscribers… after all, I want them to like me and stay subscribed I only share those things I have personally used and found to be beneficial, or educational and of value. I’ve been building this list of subscribers since 2006 … and that list is literally GOLD. Its because of that list that much of what you see below was made possible.

That was 2009 ~ and the contrast to my life just a year later is remarkable!

2010 was a year of major transition in the Network Marketing industry… and in order to adapt to that shift, I had to learn new skills and new ways of building a business because the old ways just don’t cut it anymore!  Its far different in this economy, where the speed of trust is the most valuable asset to your business!

Let me spell it out for those of you who either #1 have just started working a Network Marketing business and wouldn’t know any different, or #2 those who lived through it – but didn’t know what hit them!

2006 – 2008 were wonderful years for direct sales of any form – both online and off.  People were doing well and were still able to manage their spending. They whipped out their credit cards quite readily to buy whatever they felt they needed online and off. My business, Sponsoring Success LLC sold products at all price points – from $19 to $11,000 with relative ease.  I think of those years as the Golden years and indeed it felt as if it would always be this way.  We just assumed that if we stayed in front of the trends we’d be residual millionaires in no time at all!

And then WHACK – the economy took a nosedive, and so did our business!

Across the industry companies were losing distributors by the droves as they cut spending on anything that wasn’t a necessity.  Anything considered an add-on product was cut from the budget. That meant autoships like magic super juice, over priced beauty products and travel packages were out.  Attrition was at an all time high and friends I’d known for years who had always done really well working from home were getting JOBS!

Companies took drastic measures and made dire mistakes like trying to increase sales by adding new products… that didn’t sell.
Online sales for affiliate products fell drastically as well, as people kept their credit cards in their wallets and simply didn’t buy like they used to!
It was a desperate time.

I count my blessings that we had decided to make one more go at the residual income dream with a company called ViSalus Sciences.  In an economy where most companies sales dropped by 60% or more, ViSalus grew by a staggering 658%! For the Milletics family, that meant our income saw double digit compounding growth in 2010 ~ and we sailed through a year that crushed many!

We like pictures and videos don’t we?  Lets see how 2010 went ~ and how many times this lady had ‘luck’!

I had already qualified for the ViSalus BMW Club in October of 2009 ~ but they had a promotion for February 2010 that would mean an extra $1000 in cash on stage if you qualified… so I ran my husband’s position to BMW qualified Regional Director.

Since we working with an incredible company and a marketing plan that made it really easy to increase sales… we stayed qualified to receive those 2 car payments from ViSalus – and will – for life!

As the Body By Vi Challenge started to pick up steam, I headed out into the community to build local.  This was the biggest change to my business model in 9 years! But hey, my kids are grown and in school – and I can and DO connect with the movers and shakers in my community!

By mid summer, the Body By Vi Challenge was qualifying 2 people a day for the BMW bonus!

The momentum was picking up as we were helping people get amazing results in just 90 days.
There was something to that unique Vi-Shape shake after all!
The Body By Vi Challenge responded to economy in a big way – and with its refer 3 to get your next kit free program for customers, and disappearing autoship,  big leaders started coming over in droves, which really fueled the growth of ViSalus in the coming months… and we rode the WAVE!

Remember those pool bonuses I like to get so often? They grow quite nicely when the company grows by 10,000+ new people every month!

With those magazines in the hands of our team, we saw amazing growth in our business. Over a few short months we had 5 more people qualify for the BMW club, and I hit the rank of National Director.

But the single most important point of the year was when team members Skip and Cindy Taylor got the Grand Prize for couples in the Body By Vi Challenge!

When interviewed for being a top promoter of the Body by Vi Challenge, Melanie Milletics was asked to speak on what being a member of the Bimmer Club meant to her, as a successful Work at Home Mom & entrepreneur.

“Told U So” ! That really says it all for this work at home mom. I’ve been working in the home based business industry since 2000 – but it wasn’t until I came “home” to ViSalus that I finally got the ultimate answer to all of those people along the way who doubted that I’d be successful! The Bimmer club, and its clear message of success is an incredible way to put promoters of the Body By Vi Challenge on a fast track to leadership with confidence that what they are doing is truly phenomenal. And it silences the naysayers… even opening their eyes to the potential of the business plan!

Melanie Milletics qualified for the Bimmer Club in October 2009 and immediately went to work to get a second BMW qualifier in her household. In February 2010 she qualified her husband for the BMW Club as well! ViSalus is all about having twin BMWs in the family driveway!  Many husband and wife teams are BMW qualified – effectively wiping out car payments and instead getting $600 a month from ViSalus to pay for their black BMW of choice!

The BMW qualification is actually very ‘low’ in the compensation plan, at just the second level of qualification, Regional Director.  This allows those who are just getting started promoting the Body By Vi Challenge to drive a symbol of their success very early on.  Promoters of the Challenge say that having the black BMW typically increases their business by 45% right away!

Success from Home September 2010 Issue Features the ViSalus Body By Vi Challenge

ViSalus Sciences sent the winners of the Body By Vi Challenge and the top promoters of the Challenge on a free cruise to Baja Mexico.
It was truly an incredible time spent with some of the most positive people on the planet!

I flew out to LAX, where I was met by my good friend Susan Moss – whom I happen to have met on Twitter last year! We drove down to the Port at Long Beach and went to the Queen Mary for lunch before I boarded. Susan is one of the most fun & honest people I know, and I’m thrilled to have good people like her in Hollywood!

I hopped on the ship… the second to the last to board and found my cabin so I could prepare for the ViSalus Cocktail reception.
It was wonderful to meet the winners of the first round of the Body By Vi Challenge – the people I’d be spending the next 4 days with!

From a fun day at sea, dinner with conversation so fun my cheeks hurt, to dancing all night – the Vi-Cruise was absolutely incredible!

On Catalina we spent the day with our toes in the sand. We walked the short distance from the dock into town to get some provisions… then made our way to a stretch of sand that we had virtually to ourselves! Our friends went snorkeling… but the waters were a bit cold for this Floridian. Instead I hiked among the rocks and got a good look at the crazy kelp growing thick in the waters. I really think I saw an otter… but I was called crazy woman, so I cant say for sure

Ensenada was wonderful as well! We traveled from the dock to La Bufadora – one of only 4 blowholes on the planet.
The colors were incredible – the algae, the blue waters, kelp- and the contrast of desert flowers. It was totally awesome!

I was with a bunch of crazy adults on vacation… and thus it was inevitable that we would find the biggest & best bar in Ensenada – Pappas & Beer.

Every city across the world should have a spot this cool. The DJ totally rocked – and spending the afternoon dancing in the sun was probably the highlight of the entire trip for me… maybe

There were some major personal upheavals that happened, and in the sake of sanity… sometimes you just have to look forward, right? I mean, isn’t that what every personal development book under the sun tells you? Forgive, forget, and move on, lest your own baggage will keep you way, way down?

So, without further ado, 2009 in video review.

The first video was actually taken in November of ‘08, but its very applicable to this story. See, its all about my getting the best home based business tax course in existence for FREE. Yep, my ‘lucky star’ was shining while I was cruising, and Sandy Botkins handed me Tax Strategies for Business Professionals, a course worth about a grand. I won it – and it really made a difference in how I tracked my business income and expenses in 2009. After all, I want to KEEP as much of the money I earn as possible.

I actually am pretty ‘lucky’. I just expect that great things will happen to me, and that life will be sweet. Most of the time I get what I expect. Imagine that…

In early 2009 I decided to expand ‘Me Inc’ and my online real estate. Since I had been building my own list since 2006, it made perfect sense to start MLM List Building Secrets. I also started to provide training webinars for my subscribers to teach them the methods I had used to become the top enroller in my company using 100% online marketing methods.

In the spring of 2009 the Renegade Network Marketer, Ann Sieg, announced the merging of the Renegade System with with Mike Klinglers Marketing Merge. She asked me to be a coach for the system and to provide exclusive training on my expertise, MLM list building. They ran a affiliate promotion to enroll Renegade Professional students, and I was the #1 affiliate for leads generated, and in the top 3 for sales.

As the Renegade Professional and the launch of Mike Dillard’s Better Networker increased the number of Network Marketers who were attempting to build their business online, it became clear to me that there was alot of confusion about ‘best practices’. Since I had been studying top internet marketers since 2001, I had a very clear idea of how to best set up a home based business online. I felt an overwhelming need to tell everything I knew, and knew I could help those who were struggling to establish themselves online to get it done right the first time. I created a free membership site at www.SponsoringSuccess.net and provided clear instructions on how to build a Network Marketing business online.

In probably the most technically complex tasks of my life, I launched SponsoringSuccess.net membership site, a web based resource to help the home based business owner succeed wildly online.

In the summer of 2009 Mike Dillard announced the release of the Traffic Formula 2 course, and an incredible affiliate contest.  While traveling to Los Angeles to investigate my potential new Network Marketing home, I participated in the affiliate launch and was the only woman on the top 10 leaderboard.  Ultimately, I ended up in lucky 13th place… but hey, I was traveling!

Mike Dillard used my video on the sales page – and subsequently asked me to be an Instructor at Better Networker.

In June I officially made my move to work with ViSalus Sciences, a Network Marketing company who’s marketing system, the Vi-Net, is actually a social networking site that directly integrates with sites like Facebook and Twitter to make Social Media Marketing easy.  In July, ViSalus launched the Nationwide Body By Vi Challenge, and I launched my own 90 Day Challenge Vlog at www.my-body-by-vi.com .

I set out to transform my body – and spent the next 90 days focused on my own health.  You can see the videos I created in the archives at www.my-body-by-vi.com .

I put all of my effort and focus into building up ViSalus, and by the time the ViSalus Fusion Academy came to Tampa, I had a couple of excellent accomplishments recognized!

I had achieved the rank of Regional Director, and the BMW Bonus!

I also earned a Free Cruise for being a Top Producer in the Body By Vi Challenge.

The end of 2010 was all about helping those people I had gotten started in the fall to get up to speed and making money… after all, thats how this business model works!

2009 was pretty spectacular, considering all that I set my mind to accomplish.  The bar is now raised, and the first set goals for 2010 are already on paper.  I’ll continue to grow my list and provide valuable training to those who seek to have a profitable internet based business. I’ll continue to climb the ranks in ViSalus by training others with the methods of the Fusion Academy.   I know the goals I have written will come to pass, for I am unstoppable.

My mentor tells me that sometimes the truth is better than a lie, even if it hurts you to tell it! She has been networking for 15 years and has built 3 businesses to multiple 6 figures, so I think she knows a bit about the world we live in. The truth is better than a lie- and although I have not blatantly lied – by omission of my actual story of persistence in this industry, I have denied many the INSPIRATION that my story could provide. This is the story of my MLM journey, and I do hope that you’ll stick with me to the end…

It all began about 8 years ago with the ‘magic juice’ my chiropractor gave me. Now, the name of such juice is irrelevant. You know the stuff. It costs a bundle and cures all ills. In fact, it will even bring you eternal happiness if you share the wonders of the juice with enough people – the company will cut you a nice big check. I looked at the brochures of how you get paid to share and went to work – as we certainly needed the $$$! I was home raising my daughter while my husband worked a stressful job that was literally draining the life out of him! That magic juice company went out of business – but that was of no consequence because I’d already started surfin the web to find my million dollar business. I had another magic juice, some fun green fairy dust and even some air purifiers and water purifiers to boot. I was trying to sell everything, in any way I could. And I did – some of it. I learned early on that I was a success- the voice of God spoke loudly that I could do ANYTHING and I listened…and maxed out my cards (I’m sure that was not what God meant!). I began to seek out the people who had their smiling faces on the net claiming their gazillions in network marketing. I would ask them really dumb questions and as such, they had no answers. They would all tell me to join their deal- but that wasn’t the answer I was looking for.

You see, I could use a script, website, sizzle call and lead list and I could sponsor. Oh yes- I had no fear. But I KNEW, just KNEW that the big dogs weren’t paying for leads. They were generating their own. But they wouldnt tell me how…

I knew there was nothing different between me and them, except that they were doing something I did not yet know how to do- and I was determined to figure out how it was done. The net was a different place then – this information wasn’t free!

I went to work with a very well known company and made every promotion that put in front of me. I got every pin, watch, blanket, track suit – whatever they put out. I got all that STUFF, but really very little money. The residual income dream seamed to belong to others- I couldn’t crack the code. I didn’t know it was because I was working with a totally crappy comp plan… that knowledge would come later.

In June 2005 my husband was laid off from the job that was killing him. I did a happy dance and told him – YEAH! Now I can focus on my MLM and we can get RICH! Meanwhile, he was crying to my Mother that I was crazy to think we can live on Love (we can, cant we?). That very same month Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring landed in my lap. Lightning struck, the stars aligned and my destiny unfolded. (Yes, it was that big a deal!)

I had learned a bit along the way about what the big dogs were doing. I was generating my own leads and doing pretty well navigating the net and thought myself quite accomplished. When I got Mag Spon, it wasn’t that the info was all totally new- but rather that it brought everything together for me. I used the Magnetic Sponsoring affiliate program to keep us afloat – while I went to work as a TEACHER!

I was working as a sub in the Philadelphia school district and coming home in the evenings to generate an extra hundred or two a day with Mike’s program. I stopped working the MLM with the crappy comp plan and just focused on the “now money” and on honing my lead generation skills. I connected with thousands of networkers and began to build my database (LIST). I called many networkers while I sat in the passenger’s seat of our Suburu wagon – making the bold move to Florida where I would work to get my teachers certification. That fall I taught myself html so that I could build my own capture pages. It was only another few steps to build www.SponsoringSuccess.com , link it to an autoresponder and mail out to the leads I’d generated from Magnetic, as well as the new subscribers I would begin to attract.

Folks, I branded myself, built my website, managed the newsletter and then made HUGE MONEY in direct sales – while working 40 hours per week as a high school science teacher! I also have 2 small children. I am indeed superwoman – because my WHY is huge.

Wait – did I say huge money in direct sales?- I did. I began to apply my skills to market direct sales and was making truly crazy money- it blew my head up so big I didn’t even THINK about the teachers certification. I was certain that after the second year I would never return. Why on earth would I??? I was making big bucks and the future was so bright, I didn’t see what was coming.

A little over a year ago the big one hit us. I will not go into it here, but know that our family was hit so hard that Momma was no longer able to work direct sales. When you don’t sell, you don’t earn- and my income dropped to well below the level of sustainability. For almost 6 months I was not operating at full capacity and really just kind of tread water with my business. The old FEAR had come back – fear that I was really incapable of living the dream. I did what I felt was SAFE, and I went back to work – and to get that teaching certification.

I know that we are truly blessed. I am so very thankful to an industry that has taught me that you must change your mind in order to change your bank account. Everything has fallen into place for us, in such fantastic ways. Please allow me to explain.

In January of 2007 a networker named Tim called me out of the blue. He said he was on my newsletter list and knew I was marketing “big ticket”, “top tier” companies. He asked me what I was doing with the people who couldn’t afford them the high ticket opportunities, and I had no answer. Now, I normally don’t listen to pitches about anything- but something told me to Google this guy. I also asked him why the heck I should even listen to him… and he told me what he’d done in the past. Impressed enough by what he said, and certain that I could get double mileage out of my leads with this little MLM deal… I joined joined and got to work. I funneled my leads who couldn’t afford my other programs right in, and had a decent little team – but I still had no faith in that MLM model that I was sure would pay me peanuts…

Remember the calls I was making to the Magnetic Sponsoring leads in the car on the way to Florida? One of them led to a truly life changing event. On that ride I spoke with a woman named Holly Powell, and in July of 07 she joined me in my MLM company (that is a lesson on the power of the LIST too, people join you YEARS later). Within a month she was a “Regional Executive” and I suddenly got a residual check for over $500. Now, remember, I was just barely working- barely thinking, barely treading water- and I get this check for over $500 from the little MLM deal.

WAKE UP CALL!

Wait, there is real residual income here? Is it possible that if I went to work here I might actually live the residual income dream I’d been sold all those years ago? Possible? Absolutely!

In August I went back to teaching high school science… and worked my MLM part time. In October the company integrated a marketing platform, and things really took off. I mailed my database (my LIST) and was enrolling at least 25 people each and every month. I hit “National Executive” and watched my residual checks grow and considered leaving teaching In January. However, I had not yet finished my certification and felt the need to finish what I started. I worked up till June 2008 as a High School Science teacher and built my residual income up with my MLM. I got my certification, graduated the Seniors – and resigned.

I’m free.
I’m home with my family…

Oh, did I ever mention that my husband hadn’t worked since being laid off in 2005? Supermom worked all day and networked all night and Dad stayed home with the kids!

Remember the database that I began to build in 2005? My LIST. It was that list that enabled me to build a network marketing company virtually at the push of a button, and in my SPARE time.

I was not tied to the phone.
I was not prospecting like mad.

But I Was…
